Newsletter September 2018

Have you ever thought about running away from the stresses of this world?

This thought prompted a family in 1940 to move to a tiny island in the Coral Sea. All was well until 2 years later war broke out in the Pacific and they had front row seats for the battle. They discovered that you can’t run away.

It often seems as if life is like being on a roller coaster. You want to call out, ‘Please, can someone stop and let me off?’

The children need your attention, shoes to buy for the new school term, uniforms to get, (how have they managed to grow so much this year?) you’re their taxi service to clubs and organisations they belong to.

The demands of worklife seem to increase and how do you get work and home life balanced to everyone’s satisfaction?

How many times have you heard senior citizens say, "I don’t know how I had time to go to work? I am so busy."

We read in the Bible that often Jesus would find that crowds followed him wanting to hear his stories and words of wisdom and many desperately wanted to be healed. When this happened he would go off by himself to find a quiet spot; there he would pray to God his Father. It makes me think that if Jesus felt the need to pray then how much more do we need to pray to our Heavenly Father especially in those times when we are feeling that the world is getting too much for us, or pressures of life surround us. You can’t run away but you can turn to God and ask for his peace during the trying times of life. We read in Psalms that God is our hiding place and we can shelter under the shadow of his wings, he is our refuge in times of trouble.

There’s never a teardrop that God doesn’t see.
He knows when a sparrow falls from a tree.
There’s never a moment when God doesn’t care.
Never a time when he won’t hear our prayer.
