The news of a new baby is so exciting!

The planning for it’s arrival starts very early on: looking through books of names and their meanings (so often now parents know whether it will be a girl or a boy, not so when our children were born),choosing colour schemes and checking out the best car seats, prams and cots.

One thing that would be really handy to know is where your baby will be born so you can plan your journeys!

In the Old Testament there are lots of references to the coming of Jesus the Messiah and that He would be a descendant of King David. About 700 years before Jesus’ birth, in Micah chapter 5 verse 2, it tells that Jesus would be born in King David’s hometown of Bethlehem.

Many of you will know the words of the carols that we love to sing each year. Sometimes we find ourselves singing them without taking note of the words because they are so familiar to us.

At times it is good just to read the words and think on their meaning.

‘O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie!

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.

Yet in thy dark street shineth the everlasting Light;

The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

O Holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us we pray,

Cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today.

We hear the Christmas angels, the great glad tidings tell.

O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel.’

May that be our prayer this Christmas, that Jesus may come to us and abide with us and make a difference to us and to our world!

May we at TLC wish you all a very peaceful and blessed Christmas!
